Raquel Hazell

As a mixed media artist, I hope to convey the very real sense of skepticism and foreboding that I feel to be second nature to our generation; the constant "waiting for the other shoe to drop" and expectations of the situation getting worse.

I believe that by fragmenting the surface of my pieces and shrouding the figures in these clouds of layers is very indicative, of both the hopelessness presented by the media and the desire to be left undisturbed, in peace.

Most of my work serve as snapshots, loose impressions of someone so thoroughly affected by the hypocrisy and thinly veiled hatred of a system that's supposed to be protecting it's people that, in response, the figures fumble and lose themselves under the weight and disappointment.
